1850s pattern Trotter Pack.
Oil panted linen canvas with natural dyed leather corner reinforcements. Pine planking frame. Pipe-clayed buff straps with cast brass buckles.
This version has continious white straps round the pack and is 17" by 13"
Variations to this pattern were introduced in 1828 and 1838, with diferences in size, straping and metalwork.
1854 saw the introduction of the last pattern with 'Y' straps.

(Of note, this style is often confused with the 'Napoleonic Trotter Pack' That was a modification of the older 'Envelope' pack, but made by Mr Trotter, and is not the same thing as these packs)
